It’s now over a year since the roll-out of auto enrolment came to an end. We know that the initiative has so far been a huge success, helping 10 million people to save for their retirement. But, what do we know about the impact it’s had on the day-to-day financial lives of this new generation of savers? And, what can be done to help those who have fallen through the net?
Our fourth annual Nest Insight conference brought together academics, policy makers and industry to dig beneath the headline data and explore how auto enrolment has affected people’s savings behaviours and wider financial lives, while questioning what lessons can be learned from comparable models around the world. We then turned our lens on those not benefiting from the savings system and considered how we can make long-term savings more inclusive of some harder to reach groups.
